First, you may have noticed this post was up really early today, and it had placeholders for the winners because I hadn't tabulated the counts yet! Forgive me for the early posting. This post was in the queue for today and I had the time on it incorrectly. Small (yet typical) oversight on my part. (No wonder they wouldn't hire me as a proofreader.)
Anyhow, results are in. First, congratulations to everybody for some really great entries! And thanks for participating and making this fun for me, and (I hope) fun for everyone else, too.
Congratulations to the winners!
THE WINNER (with the most votes, and who wins a large Chthulu plushie and bragging rights), with five votes:
Charles Gramlich!!!
THE RUNNER UP (second highest vote count, who gets a choice of a small Chthulu plushie or a book by Charles Stross) with four votes:
McKoala!!
THE WINNERS OF A COPY OF "CHILD OF FIRE" BY HARRY CONNOLLY (Mention made in this post):
Barb Toth
&
Sarah Laurenson!
I have to say that at the 11th hour, four people [Sylvia, McKoala, H.R. Holsclaw, and Amanda Toth] were tied for second place, and first place was only edging out the others by one single vote! That's close! But a couple more votes came in, and the runner up and winner were determined without any fancy-schmancy necromantic hand waving and gibbering by yours truly. (Because, although I like the Elder Gods on paper, I do not want to call any of them down on accident. Just saying.)

Congrats again winners! Please email me (writtenwyrdd AT live DOT com) with your snail mail address so I can send your loot.
I so recognized Whirl's as his. Only he could write Chthulu at the deli like that.
Congrats to all. And now I have to go back and read them again knowing who wrote each one.
[This came in early, when the post was up without the winners listed. WW]

Yay, my fave came in first! Congratulations, everybody.

I loved that one, too. Congrats to Charles for his win and a well-written tale.
I have to say, "Lost in Greenery" was tied for me with Whirl's humorous deli story. It was a hard decision between all these great entries.

Whoo hoo! That's so cool. Thanks everyone, and Writtenwyrd for hosting. There were lots of fine and fun stories to pick from. I'm not surprised the voting was so close.

i picked your tale, charles... as did YOU!
thx d, was a lotta fun, with great entries :)

Alas, my crappy poem did not garner a single vote, but I'm glad you were impressed with my couplets, Charles. :)
Posted by: writtenwyrdd | November 10, 2009 at 09:11 AM
Congratulations to the winners!
I recognised Whirl's style, and his was my favourite but with so many very good stories it was hard to choose.
Posted by: fairyhedgehog | November 10, 2009 at 09:35 AM
WW: my other half specifically mentioned your poem as clever and interesting! I had no idea it was you.
Congrats to the winners!
Posted by: Sylvia | November 10, 2009 at 09:37 AM
Thanks for telling me that. I confess to just writing it down in an hour or so and sticking it in the post, so it wasn't my best effort. And it wasn't my usual style at all. :)
Posted by: writtenwyrdd | November 10, 2009 at 09:43 AM
Yes, Laughingwolf, I did vote for myself. I didn't actually think it would be so close or that I'd come anywhere close to winning. Surely someone else voted for themselves!
Posted by: charles gramlich | November 10, 2009 at 11:48 AM
Congrats to the winners indeed!
Posted by: pacatrue | November 10, 2009 at 11:58 AM
In fact, the answer is yes to that. Not telling who, though. And there's nothign wrong with voting for yourself. ;)

Whoopee!
Just hope for Charles and Shona's sakes that those cuddly Cthulhus aren't self-animating.
Could be the last we see of those guys.
Posted by: Whirlochre | November 10, 2009 at 12:36 PM
Or, Whirlochre, could be we'll come back as Lovecraftian monsters. You might see more of us elder ones that you'd like!

Hurray, Charles!
Yay, McKoala!
Huzzah, Sarah and Barb/Amanda!
I loved so many of the entries in this contest. What awesome writers hang around these parts! Congratulations to all the entrants, as well as the winners.

Congratulations to the winners! This was a really enjoyable contest. I got one vote and a couple of mentions, so I am much pleased :)
Make sure those Cthulhu plushies get plenty of sacrifices to keep them appeased, now!

Yes, they tell me peanut butter fudge is nice. ;) And beer.
Posted by: writtenwyrdd | November 10, 2009 at 07:43 PM
Huh. I won something. How cool.
And I didn't get any votes either, WW. Not even from myself. ;-)
Posted by: Sarah Laurenson | November 11, 2009 at 12:10 AM
Whoopee! Thanks! Had a great time reading all of these; what a fantastic range of stories. And I'm also in the "I'd never have guessed that was WW, but spotted Whirl in a nanosecond" group!
Posted by: mckoala | November 11, 2009 at 05:00 AM
I didn't vote for me either, Sarah, but then I liked so many of the entries more than mine...and I wasn't going to win anyhow, being as I was ineligible. I just wanted to join in the fun. :)
Posted by: writtenwyrdd | November 11, 2009 at 07:39 AM
Congrats to the winners!! And I want to thank anyone that voted for me (Amanda Toth).. including my mother, who ended up winning a book! I don't think she even realized she won, haha. It was a lot of fun writing that story, and to see it posted somewhere.
Congratulations! And Thank you, again!
Morning Glow/ Amanda Toth

Well, you might tell Mom to email me with her address so I can send it to her. Unless she doesn't want it, in which case I can draw another number from the random number generator.
Posted by: writtenwyrdd | November 11, 2009 at 10:50 AM
Congrats!
There were some really neat entries, here. It was pretty cool being involved!
Posted by: Dhes of Yuggoth | November 11, 2009 at 11:37 AM
Oh, and of course, thanks for you guys' support! :D
Posted by: Dhes of Yuggoth | November 11, 2009 at 11:40 AM
It was very fun to do this. I'll try and find an excuse for another one next year. Different theme, I think.
Posted by: writtenwyrdd | November 11, 2009 at 12:12 PM
I let her know! She should have emailed you by now. I hope anyways. She seemed shocked when I told her she won.
Posted by: Morning Glow | November 11, 2009 at 06:05 PM
I'm always surprised when I win something, too.
