Thanks to spyscribbler, I found a cool site with a sentence diagramming tool. Knock yourselves out! Might be useful to refresh your memory for parts of speech. I refuse to get all tied up in playing with this myself though, not after the joining Facebook debacle!
Basically, the University of Southern Florida offers a free program, SenDraw, which will diagram sentences (after you do the legwork). To whit,
SenDraw can be used to create diagrams for sentences that have you have
already analyzed. SenDraw will not automatically analyze and diagram
sentences for you. Even seemingly simple English sentences require
smart humans to analyze them; consider, for example, the differences
between "Time flies like an arrow" and "Fruit flies like a banana."
This is so cool!

lol. Love the examples, one metaphorical, the other concrete and yet sounding like gibberish after you read the first one.

Diagramming? We actually never did that in NJ. And then we moved to the south where the english teacher started drawing these funny things on the board and I had no idea what she was doing.
[BTW - I used to be in law enforcement]

I can't recall how to diagram, but I remember thinking, "What's the point?" at the time.
Re former career choices, there are a lot of us out there, aren't there?

They don't say if it will work with both PC and Macs.

If you still have the program please let me know. UCF has taken it off of their website. I would like to have it. You can reach me through facebook...
BTW if you are looking for a refresher on diagramming check out "Sentence Analysis" by Donald W. Emery.
