I haven't been camping in dog's years, not since I moved back to New England in 1999. So I'm a bit behind in the latest and greatest gear that's available. Today, I learned about a cool thing (which I want now): The Hennessey Hammock. The hammock has a mosquito net on tip, a rope 'guy wire' that both helps to keep the hammock tent-like, and keep it from drooping from your weight by providing tension along the sides of the hammock. Hammocks are comfortable and lightweight, and, so long as you have trees or something to string them from, they are quick to put up. You can't beat that!
So, you can use this little bit of info in a story some time, if your characters are out camping someplace. I actually have a story where they are out camping, so I might even be able to use it.
You do come up with some cool ideas!

Hammocks are would-be scrotums for ball-brains.

Hey, I think they are great for camping if you want to be off hard, cold ground. The biggest problem is they tend to fold around you without a bar on the ends. Sort of like a scrotum, indeed.

Looks a mite breezy if the wind kicks up...and I'm prone to seasickness, for that matter.
However, I'm also prone to feeling cold, and being up off the ground like that could be lovely.

I'm thinking with my bad back, it would be a necessity. But I haven't had occasion to camp in eleven plus years.
